Neon Thoughts - Kevin Bradshaw
I have just been on Mr Ford's blog and watched a few of the short films he has put up from the Virgin Media Shorts website, I then started watching some more of the entries on the website to see if any of them related to our own short film :)
Here I have uploaded 'Neon Thoughts' which was produced and directed by Kevin Bradshaw, this short film has a clear message and really made me think as I was watching it. It shows the protagonist going through different settings, surrounded by lots of people but always standing alone, this feeling of isolation is something we aim to create in our homeless character. I really like the effect that has been used to show the rest of the world moving at a fast pace behind the character, as he just stands still, also by not looking at the camera he appears disconected. At times, for example when the man looks up on the bus and the woman smiles at the camera, the point of view shots that are used place the audience in the mans position, this is effective in allowing us to almost feel the way that he does.
Time lapse is used a lot throughout the film which highlights the busy lifestyle most of us lead nowadays, by always staying still it appears as though the protagonist has taken a step out of reality to review, and critisize the behavior of the modern day person. There is a short piece of stop motion when the man moves down the road perfectly still.
The last sentence we hear is "6 billion people live here together, yet within your life time you connect with less than one percent of them, how many have you avoided today?" Here Bradshaw has used personal pronouns, the same as Theo did in his poem, this is effective in directly addressing the audience, so they are forced into thinking about the people they have avoided eg. homeless people. I also thought that the music used was fitting to the action, however it did get a bit repetative towards the end! x
