The Royal Tenembaums

As a class we watched 'The Royal Tenembaums' . The Director of this film was Wes Anderson, a somewhat obsessive director that makes sure the mise en scene is perfect and how he wants it , this results in a very stylistic film. The Opening titles are different and therefore memorable. We had to anaylise a character, i chose Chas , the young businuess man. here is a youtube clip of what we watched in class.



I anaylised 'the royal tenembaums'(2001) using roland barthes' cultural and semantic codes which is when any element of the text that , for example through denonation changes the connotation or interpretation of the of the text from the knowledge of the audience. I am analysising the character of Chas; a child genius. We are told this through narration but he is wearing a suit and this shows him to be older. it is also mentioned that he drinks coffee behind his desk (the central furniture in his bedroom) this shows him as the businuess man he is but also shows him to old before his age. another element of semiotics is the press interview ; another alien element to wha is said to be about a 8-10 year old boy.
